Meinmahla Kyun Wildlife Sanctuary (MKWS)

Meinmahla Kyun Wildlife Sanctuary (MKWS) is located in Bogale Township of Ayeyarwady Division, Myanmar, and covers an area of 13,700 hectares. The sanctuary protects the remaining mangrove forests of Myanmar and serves as a refuge for estuarine crocodiles and resident and migratory water and shore birds. It is also a breeding ground for fish and prawns, a research area for conserving mangroves and wildlife, and an environmental education center.

The sanctuary faces several issues, including traditional agriculture, small-scale logging or fuelwood, and management unit capacity.

Under the SGP, interventions aim to reduce illegal fishing and mangrove cutting inside the reserve, as well as threats to the endangered reptiles found within the site.
