Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary (ILWS)

Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary (ILWS) is a 77,525-hectare protected area in Mohnyin Township, Kachin State, Myanmar. The sanctuary is home to waterfowl and their habitats.

However, the sanctuary faces several threats, including traditional agriculture, exploitation of wildlife and forest products, over or destructive fishing, local mining, boundary conflicts and land claims, management unit capacity, and management planning.

Under the SGP, interventions aim to reduce overfishing, pollution, watershed degradation, and local mining at ILWS. The project will also support creating more sustainable recreational use of the site.Aside from being an AHP, ILWS is also a Ramsar site and a Biosphere Reserve, which opens more funding opportunities for the sanctuary.
