Phase II of the Strategy of the CBD Secretariat

Background

The ACB and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) entered into a Small-Scale Funding Agreement under P1-33 BEL-000161, which was signed on 26 March 2019. 

 

The agreement designated the ACB as the Regional Implementation Support Network in the East and Southeast Asia Region

Objectives

facilitate the effective implementation of National Priority Actions in the East and Southeast Asian region and other commitments identified by the Parties to the Convention for achieving Aichi Biodiversity Target 11 by 2020, and to put in place a mechanism for sustained capacity development
respond to a decision of the COP by enabling a coordination agency and regional implementation support network to achieve Aichi Biodiversity Target 11 by 2020.

COMPONENTS

  1. Preparation of action plans for the national priority actions and other commitments for Aichi Biodiversity Target 11
  2. Establishment of a regional network of partners and experts to support the effective implementation of Aichi Biodiversity Target 11
  3. Collaboration with the Regional Implementation Support Network and facilitation of communication with the national implementers of Aichi Biodiversity Target 11 in the ASEAN Member States (AMS)
  4. Capacity development of the AMS in relation to Aichi Biodiversity Target 11
  5. Sharing of Southeast Asian countries case studies with Parties and the Regional Implementation Support Network for multilateral funding
  6. Development of a mechanism to share information, best practices, and barriers in the region through existing portals and fora
  7. Monitor implementation of the roadmaps to assess the progress of the elements of Aichi Biodiversity Target 11 in the AMS
  8. Conduct activities that prepared the AMS for the implementation of the successor target to Aichi Biodiversity Target 11 under the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework
