    TERMS OF REFERENCE

    A. BACKGROUND

    The ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) is an intergovernmental regional centre of excellence established through an agreement among the Governments of the Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2005. It facilitates cooperation and coordination among the members of ASEAN, and with relevant national governments, regional, and international organisations, on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of such biodiversity in the ASEAN region.

    The Knowledge Management Division (KMD) will lead the implementation of the Knowledge Management Plan of the ACB to promote conservation perspectives in the region. The KMD will ensure systematic and organised capturing, curation, storage, and sharing of quality biodiversity data, information and knowledge, which will support effective regional and national biodiversity planning, policy development, science-based decision-making, implementation, monitoring, review, and reporting.

    The ACB is seeking to engage dynamic, innovative, and committed candidates for the position of Knowledge Management Associate. The Knowledge Management Associate will be accountable to the Knowledge Management Division Director. S/he is required to officially report daily at the ACB Office in Los Baños and should be willing to travel when required.

    B. SCOPE OF DUTIES

    Under the Knowledge Management Division (KMD) of the Biodiversity Knowledge Management Department (BKMD) and supervision of the Knowledge Management Division Director, with guidance from the Knowledge Management Officer, and in collaboration with the Knowledge Management representatives of each department of the ACB in the management of external and internal biodiversity information to support the implementation of the ACB KM Plan and deliverables of the BKMD, the KM Associate shall perform the following responsibilities:

    a. Co-manage the Knowledge Management Platform website by serving as the primary curator of this repository for documents, reports, images, videos, and other information and materials that are relevant to the Knowledge Management Plan, ASEAN Biodiversity Outlook, the ACB Scientific Advisory Committee, and other knowledge products and services. The KM Associate will work closely with personnel from other divisions of BKMD in this task;

    b. Monitor and collate consistently, all available and accessible reports, news articles, posts, and other information on activities and events relevant to biodiversity in the ASEAN that are posted on official websites of, or recognised by, the AMS and the ACB, in particular, the ASEAN Clearing-House Mechanism (CHM) and national CHMs. The Knowledge Management Associate will work closely with personnel from the Communication Department and BKMD to transform these resources into effective and appealing infographics, and to upload them onto the ASEAN Biodiversity Dashboard and/or the ACB Knowledge Management Platform;

    c. In coordination with the BKMD Director and Division Directors, the Knowledge Management Associate will work together with the other associates of the ACB department in enhancing the ASEAN Biodiversity Dashboard (specifically, to DashFacts and Glimpses webpages) and in contributing to the ASEAN Biodiversity Outlook, by writing and/or providing content such as articles and short texts, images,
    graphs, maps, videos, or audio;

    d. Identify information from ACB databases, published articles, and other relevant sources that may be developed and transformed into Knowledge Management products, infographics, and the like;

    e. Provide support to the BKMD and the Knowledge Management team in the development of KM products such as videos, policy briefs, tutorials, and the like;

    f. Take the lead in administrative needs of the KM Division and work closely with the other Associates of the BKMD to accomplish administrative needs of the Department;

    g. Integrate or share outputs, whenever needed, with those from other personnel of BKMD and other departments of ACB; and

    h. Perform other related tasks that may be assigned by the Supervisor(s) from time to time.

    C. QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Work Experience

    • Must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, wildlife biology, ecology, or conservation biology, or its equivalency requirements:
      • Non-related field with three (3) years of related work experience.
      • Strong understanding of biodiversity conservation principles and practices.
      • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on emerging biodiversity conservation issues and best practices.
      • Knowledge and experience in knowledge management concepts and strategies.
      • Familiarity with knowledge management software and tools.
      • Analytical and problem-solving abilities for identifying knowledge gaps and proposing solutions.

    Nationality

    • Must be a citizen of the Philippines
