Positive Leadership Training Reflections: Marilyn Dela Torre, GYBN SEA

As part of lifelong skills training for the ASEAN Youth Biodiversity Leaders (YBL), the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) in collaboration with Positive Workplaces offered a Positive Leadership Training for YBLs and members of Global Youth Biodiversity Network Southeast Asia (GYBN SEA). The training was held virtually over 6 days in September 2021. Read what Marilyn Dela Torre from GYBN SEA learnt from the training:

During the 6-day training, I feel like there are so many things from myself uncovered. I discover my strength and weaknesses. I’ve learned a lot from the training such as sharing and developing positive energy, importance of being positive mindset, discovering what kind of positive power to use in order to influence people.

[This training] is very important and relevant to what we are doing now. As we work with different communities and we were also able to work with different stakeholders, to influence them is quite a challenge for us but because of this training, I was able to really understand that being a positive leader is a process of developing our own capacity from our inside self in order for us to influence people and to achieve common goals with an aligned vision.

MARILYN DELA TORRE, PARTICIPANT, GLOBAL YOUTH BIODIVERSITY NETWORK SOUTHEAST ASIA (GYBN SEA)

The first thing I wanted to share to the youth from my learnings in the training is don’t be scared to discover their own strength and capability because every individual have given their unique skills and that skills might be helpful to create positive changes that the people might need in this trying times. Secondly, as they discovered a lot of things from themselves, they should be also willing to improve their weakness and be open for any changes that would help them grow Third, being a positive young leader requires long time learning, being committed and consistent to what you wanted to achieve and the most important thing is if you found your passion, you will never be tired of learning new things and if that passion continuously grows, it would be easy for you to influence people to create positive changes for the better world.
