Number of positions: 2 Programme Interns, 1 Communications Intern
Duration: Minimum 3 months, ideally 6 months, flexible work hours (please see internship schedule below)
Stipend: USD 330 per month
Background:

Biodiversity underpins environmental health, food security, climate resilience, and the sustainable development and well-being of mankind. More than 630 million people in the ASEAN region depend on biodiversity for their livelihood. The sound management and protection of biodiversity is hence crucial to safeguard a sustainable, healthy and resilient ASEAN for future generations. The youth of ASEAN, defined as persons 15 – 35 years old, represent over 33% of the ASEAN population and are a key stakeholder in contributing to this future dependent on biodiversity.

To ensure the next generation is recognised and involved in the formulation and implementation of biodiversity policies, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), through the Biodiversity Conservation and Management of Protected Areas in ASEAN Project (BCAMP) supported by the European Union (EU), is spearheading the ASEAN Youth Biodiversity Programme (AYBP) in collaboration with the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN), the official youth constituency to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). AYBP has several subprogrammes:

  • Youth Biodiversity Leaders (YBL) fellowship provides in-depth capacity building and mentorship to youth leaders in biodiversity in the region to strengthen youth-led conservation efforts;
  • Youth Internships in Protected Areas in ASEAN (YIPA) provides on-the-job training for youth in protected area management;
  • Young ASEAN Storytellers (YAS) identifies and brings selected youth creatives to visit an ASEAN Heritage Park (AHP) in their own country, for them to gain inspiration and gather materials to create and tell powerful stories of conservation to a wide range of audiences; and
  • (upcoming) Conservation Action Fund (CAF) to support small-scale youth-led conservation projects in ASEAN.

More information can be found on http://localhost:10019/.

A modest stipend of USD 330/month (before any bank transaction and exchange rate fees) will be provided for the duration of the internship.
